About PADAC

PADAC Foundation is a women - led non-governmental, non-partisan and nonprofit making Organization in Nigeria, founded on the 2nd day of January 2012 by group of development experts with a view to promoting and protecting the rights of individuals in our communities particularly women, children, girls and persons with disabilities.

The Foundation was registered as Incorporated trustees with Corporate Affairs Commission in Nigeria with registration number CAC/IT/NO.106444

To promote the development of women, children, youths and other vulnerable in the society in all spheres of life

Our Objectives

  • Supplement the attainment of Sustainable Development Goals before the target date, 2030, particularly Goal 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 16
  • Reduce poverty and hunger within communities and promote health and nutrition through capacity building strategies
  • Reduce vulnerability and enhance resilience of communities to disasters
  • Track and monitor implementation of projects related to social protection in various communities across the state
  • Support communities to better prepare for disasters and provide effective humanitarian assistance and protection in response to crises
  • Promote and protect the rights of women, children, youths, and persons with disabilities in our communities, particularly their rights to health and nutrition services, education, and inclusion in the society
  • Advocate for policy changes, legislations, and financing of activities related to health, nutrition, education, social protection, and humanitarian services at state and local government levels
  • Advocate for and support state humanitarian action that is effective, accountable, and innovative and meets the needs of the most vulnerable
  • Accelerate the trajectory of recovery in the aftermath of disasters through early recovery intervention and provision of emergency relief materials and assistance
  • Do any other thing necessary or expedient in achieving any of our objectives

Strategic Focus

Our organization focuses on working towards the development of the most vulnerable groups in the society particularly women, children, persons with disabilities and internally displaced persons and supporting communities to have access to health and nutrition services, education, clean water, food and humanitarian support and other social protection related activities.

Jigawa Flood Relief Project

Jigawa Flood Relief Project from 2018 to 2019 an activity was conducted in eight local government areas, namely; Auyo, Guri, Hadejia, Dutse, Kirikasamma, Kafin Hausa, Ringim and Jahun where flood victims were identified, sensitized on the measures to be taken for the future occurrence and support where given to them in form of cash transfer to reduce their shock. This activity was conducted after fund rising from community members and voluntary organizations.

Community Sensitization and Enlightenment for Pregnant and lactating mothers on proper nutrition

Community Sensitization and Enlightenment for Pregnant and lactating mothers on proper nutrition in Birniwa, Kirikasamma and Guri local Government Areas in Jigawa State. The was conducted in three selected LGAs where pregnant and lactating mothers were identified in the selected communities with a view to sensitizing them on the importance of Antenatal Care, proper nutrition for themselves and their children, sixty women were involve in the exercise and their understanding increase especially on the use of local food that have nutrition value and cheaper price in community markets. Number of women attending antenatal care in their community facilities increase after the project in the year 2014.

PADAC Foundation is one of the CSOs selected by M4D to participate in its program from 2014 to 2018 in three LGAs, namely; Ringim, Miga and Malam Madori in the areas of Girl Child education, empowerment of women particularly those with disabilities

Malaria Project Accountability in Malaria Project

Malaria Project Accountability in Malaria Project is a project funded by Global Fund and ACOMIN Nigeria from 2018 to date, and presently we are working in a number of health facilities in Birniwa Local Government and we normally conduct focus group discussions in communities, Client Exit Interviews, Key Informants Interview in trying to identify specific issues for advocacy at local and state level toward improving accountability in malaria project. Children are suffering from malaria in various communities especially during rainy season which hinder their punctuality in schools.

PADAC conducted a situational analysis for SuNMaP2 project

PADAC conducted a situational analysis for SuNMaP2 project - Malaria Consortium to Identify and understand how these existing social accountability structures are working and what opportunities can be leveraged to network, by strengthening existing structures in their ability to hold government and health providers to account, there is a greater likelihood that malaria control will be prioritized, with sufficient and appropriate allocation of resources and programming inputs.This assignment was coordinated by PADAC consultants comprising a team leader and field investigators who finalize the methodology, undertake the situational analysis, conduct data analysis and write up the findings for submission to the project team.

Malaria Consortium SuNMaP2 Project

Malaria Consortium SuNMaP2 Project, PADAC supported with stakeholders mapping hard to reach communities to achieve the following objectives:Capture geo-spatial data points to Identify and map hard-to-reach (HTR) communities (more than 5 km from the nearest functional health facility) across selected LGAs using GIS tools (selected based on a distance and/or time criteria).Identify and map nearest functional health facility to the HTR communities, Identify and map the nearest referral health facilities to the HTR communities. Determine health facility readiness to provide child health services
  • PHCs to provide support to CORPs in terms of supervision and mentoring
  • Referral health facilities to provide secondary level care to referred sick children with severe disease.
  • Determine service availability and readiness among PPMV outlets in hard-to-reach communities
  • Identify and map PPMV outlets
  • Determine PPMV profiles (registered, not registered, trained or not etc.)
  • Assess site readiness to provide child health services
  • Collect baseline information regarding malaria, diarrhoea and cough
  • Assess the health seeking patterns and treatment options available for children with suspected history of malaria, diarrhoea and pneumonia at household level.
  • Determine the knowledge, attitudes and practices related to malaria, diarrheah and pneumonia among caregivers in ICCM-eligible communities.

Activity

Persons with Disabilities Law

This is also another project undertaken by PADAC Foundation with other CSOs with support from M4D in the year 2016 to 2017 where series of engagement with persons with disabilities and policy makers were held as a result of stigma and discrimination faced by persons with disabilities in Jigawa State. Advocacies and engagement with state legislators were held with a view to passing a legislation that would provide for the rights and opportunities for persons with disabilities in the state especially right to education and health which is incorporated in the law.

Activity

Sexual and Gender Based Violence Project

This is a project carried out by PADAC Foundation in partnership with Ministry of Justice, Justice sector and law reform commission and Baba Azimi Foundation from2019 to 2021 to address the high increase of gender-based violence cases in the state particularly rape cases against minors from 3 to 13 years of age. Community sensitizations were held, radio programs were conducted, religious and traditional leaders were engaged in addressing the situation because all rape victims were minors, PADAC supported the victims of rape particularly the girls by empowering their parents and taking them back to school in communities of Dutse, Hadejia and Kirikasamma in 2021. We also championed the passage of Violence Against Persons Prohibitions Law (VAPP) which provides for stiffer punishments for gender-based violence offences in the state.

Child Protection Advocates Platform

PADAC Foundation formed a platform to protect the rights of children in the state particularly the girl child on their enrollment and retention in primary schools in all the 27 LGAs in the state. One Community based Organization was selected from each LGA to coordinate the activities of the platform. The outcome of the platform is that presently there is a Bill for a law on Child Protection before the state House of Assembly and it is already before the House committee on justice and judiciary. The child protection bill if pass into law will provide for compulsory education for children will prohibits child labour, exploitation, street begging which are part of the barriers to education in our communities.

This is a project supported by CLEEN Foundation and PARTNERS GLOBAL which is a sensitization and awareness creation on the new innovations brought by Jigawa State Administration of Criminal Justice Law.

COVID-19 Nigeria Security Support Group Project

To monitor the conduct of security Agencies Control, Citizen compliance with the Government directive during the pandemic in 2020 with the support from CLEEN FOUNDATION.

Development of Jigawa State Social Protection Policy

PADAC Foundation is one of the CSOs that participated in the development of social protection policy in the state from formulation stage to approval stage supported by Action Against Hunger under its Child Development Grant Program (CDGP). This is a success because the policy has been approved by the state government, social protection council was established.

Development and Drafting of Social Protection Law

Social protection Law has been passed into Law by the Jigawa State House of Assembly. The objective of the law is to sustain the social protection policy which is in place beyond the present administration and also to provide a comprehensive legal and institutional framework for social protection in Jigawa State.

PADAC is presently working with PERL ECP

PADAC is presently working with PERL ECP by initiating a legislation on Free and Compulsory Basic Education in the state with specific target on children particularly girls.
